Next Monday, April 6th we will roll out our Spring schedule .. a few tweaks, but should look familiar. The 10:30 am sessions are the new THRIVE! class and will run Monday through Friday. We expanded and simplified a bit to help folks generate a routine that works for them (x2 or x3 a week now much easier) and for those who like to come every day, well that’s okay too as we’ve adjusted the programming a tad to help with recovery.
Mondays — Morning 5:15, 6 and 10:30 am | Evening 8:15 pm
Tuesdays — Morning 5:15 and 10:30 am | Evening 8:15 pm (4x4x4 Tabata Boot Camp)
Wednesdays — Morning 5:15, 6 and 10:30 am | Evening 8:15 pm
Thursdays — Morning 5:15 and 10:30 am | Evening 8:15 pm (4x4x4 Tabata Boot Camp)
Fridays — Morning 5:15, 6 and 10:30 am (no evening classes)
The changes are largely in response to feedback from existing and hopefully future members. The class times have been made more consistent to help people make it a habit. We dropped the late evening class after finding folks preferred the earlier class in Tabata format. For those who wish to periodically go evening then morning, this will get you to bed sooner so you recover a bit!
As for habits … long time members already know this all too well. Sometimes we think we just couldn’t possibly do something (like, say.. get up really early!!) But … they happen! Given about 3 weeks, you can reprogram your schedule to do things which at first seem daunting. Part of the power of this comes in our little community. A 2012 article from the American College of Sports Medicine summed it up nicely:
Group exercise offers a variety of benefits you might miss out on if you choose to work out on your own. Some of the benefits include exposure to a social and fun environment, a safe and effectively designed workout, a consistent exercise schedule, an accountability factor for participating in exercise, and a workout that requires no prior exercise knowledge or experience. You tend to stay with things you enjoy. While home (or worse, hotel!!) workouts are sometimes all you can fit in, folks who can stay with them over the long haul are pretty rare. Some will find an online group or online coaching enough to keep them on track but often it is just too easy to stop posting because we all know the get out of jail free card is to simply jot off a quick apology (excuse…) when you try to re-engage. The group setting offers not just enjoyment and the social interaction that even the introverted among us (like yours truly…) crave, but has a quite natural built in aspect of accountability. And let’s face it, even if we do drag ourselves to a home workout space and manage to “just press play”, there’s no one to push us except ourselves. Way too easy to cut a workout short or simply not put much effort into it. We do encourage you to modify things during group sessions — in both directions. Some will choose to ratchet things down or need to modify to work around limitations, but others will look for ways to amp it up — and this is far more likely to happen in the group setting than all by your lonesome.
